Weather and Wine
The surrounding Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges help to moderate Medford´s annual rainfall, which is generally less than 20 inches. Medford enjoys four distinct seasons, with summer temperatures averaging in the mid-90s, and winter temperatures dipping into the mid-30s. In the winter months snow is plentiful in the mountains, but intermittent and light on the valley floor. With its temperate climate and warm summers, the region has attracted a growing number of wineries and vintners; the topography is very similar to the low rolling hills of Napa Valley, and on the same latitude as Bordeaux, France.

Population and Growth
With a population of 70,000, Medford is the largest metro area in the region. The quality of life our area offers has recently attracted companies relocating from other states, including Amy´s Kitchen and Calvin Fabrics. Tax incentives and a stable work force are also drawing entrepreneurs. Growth in Jackson County is estimated at over 20,000 persons over the next five years. As the economy has become more diversified, the basic industries now include manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and tourism. Retail trade, construction, transportation, government and services also provide an increasing number of jobs. The retail sector, in particular, has grown considerably and today the valley serves as a retail center for an area that extends well beyond its boundaries.* With the vast array of cultural, recreational and economic benefits, and no sales tax, it´s no wonder Medford is ranked in the Top 20 for growth nationwide, and generates the third largest expenditures by visitors in the state.

Downtown Medford
The commercial and social center of Southern Oregon is in the midst of a strong urban renewal. Exciting changes are happening at a rapid pace. Downtown´s designation as a National Historic District in 1999 sparked renewed interest in preserving the city´s extensive inventory of historic buildings. Ongoing urban renewal projects have created a cultural hub with everything from shopping and fine dining, to niche businesses and open space flanked by towering fountains and public art. The downtown district is truly reaping the benefits of years of community efforts and urban renewal planning.
